Cable Installer/Technician

Role Responsibilities

  • Install CAT5e, CAT6, Coax, and Fiber Optic cables in various environments, including both aerial and underground pathways, while complying with all Safety Standards and Codes.
  • Run cables from telecom equipment racks to end locations (above ceilings, in walls, or below floors).
  • Install cable pathways such as trays, troughs, harnesses, and j-hooks.
  • Install MPLS, faceplates, surface mount raceways, and jacks with proper numbering and cable labeling.

Qualifications (required)

  • Proficient with hand and power tools.
  • Ability to follow directions from multiple sources.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs regularly and 75 lbs occasionally.
  • Able to differentiate colors for color-coded wiring.
  • Skilled in manual dexterity for small tool work.
  • Comfortable working in diverse environments (office, schools, construction).
  • Flexible to work various shifts.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Able to climb ladders, work overhead, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Must have reliable transportation if a company vehicle is unavailable.

Qualifications (preferred)

  • Confined space training
  • BICSI clearance
  • DOD clearance

Compensation

Hourly compensation is based on job knowledge. Additional compensation, when available, may include:

Fiber Optic Technician

Role Responsibilities

  • Working knowledge of telecommunications network structure in a commercial construction setting including familiarity with fiber optic cable, splice enclosures, and the functionality of each.
  • Fusion and Mechanical Splicing OSP/ISP Single-Mode and Multi-Mode fiber optic cables.
  • Terminating Splice on and Mechanical fiber optic connectors.
  • Prep splice enclosures and trays, and splice fiber optic cable ranging from single fiber to large counts as well as perform ring cuts when needed.
  • Perform mid entry to fiber optic backbone cabling.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair OSP/ISP Fiber Optic Systems using an OTDR and Visual Fault Locator (VFL).
  • Terminate, splice, document, and test fiber optic cables to company and client specifications.
  • Ability to access new and existing fiber optic splice enclosures and splice the necessary fibers in an Aerial or Underground Environment utilizing bucket trucks and ladders as needed.
  • Experience effectively and efficiently using a variety of fiber equipment including but not limited to a Fluke Tester, Unicam kit, OTDRs and fusion splicing equipment. Employee must be proficient in the use of all test and splicing equipment and must know how to use a computer, and all software used by the company concerning the completion of fiber optic projects.
  • Ability to read fiber matrices, splice plans, telecom drawings, network architecture, and shop drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and legal requirements, prioritizing a safe working environment for all involved.
  • Partner with project manager to ensure project completion is achieved in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Qualifications (required)

  • Displays strong troubleshooting skills in all areas of fiber optics.
  • Ability to read splicing matrix and design drawings as well as create splicing as-builts.
  • Ability to utilize MS Office to document and retrieve splice information.
  • Ability to operate an aerial lift (bucket truck).
  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to independently detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate in a fiber system.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to regularly sit, stand, walk in varying and uneven terrain; occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Work location will be primarily at construction jobsites with occasional administrative work at the nearest branch office.
  • Travel will be required.
